We were truly blessed to once again host the Shandon UMC choir on Sunday, July 29, 2018. This marked the second time for this exceptional group and kept the Fifth Sunday Singing Service tradition going. The choir is under the direction of Eddie Huss, who provides the piano accompaniment as he directs. The musical program includes congregational singing in addition to the special numbers. These included "The Majesty and Glory of Your Name", "Grace" (a variation on Amazing Grace) and a rousing spiritual, "In Dat Great Gittin' Up Mornin!". Pastor Kevin Liles led the service which included prayers and scripture and a brief message on God's Handiwork. We certainly were witnessed to that on this day as we enjoyed the musical gifts on display. Eddie Huss provided piano preludes and postludes with his world class talents. Congregational hymns included Love Divine, All Loves Excelling, written by Charles Wesley in 1743. This hymn is a mainstay in the Anglican Church and is sung at every royal wedding. To hear it and the rest of this wonderful musical program provided by Shandon, you can see the video here.
Following the service we enjoyed a meal at The Oaks, Magnolia Room. We are fortunate to have this extension of the Methodist Church nearby. It is a beautiful setting and one that was enjoyed by everyone. This was a new experience for us and in a beautiful setting, very fitting for the occasion. To be guests of the facility most of us know as the Methodist Oaks certainly added to our fellowship experience. Fortunately it was a pleasant day and the rain took the day off.
It should not be overlooked that this appearance by Shandon was especially important to New Hope at a time of transition to a new pastor. We needed a rallying point to mark the start of Kevin's ministry with us. There was not a moment's hesitation on the part of Shandon to lend their support to us. We are eternally grateful to them and to our God in heaven for bringing these people into our lives. We thank Eddie and the choir and we also thank folks from New Hope including the ladies who got the fellowship hall ready; Kevin who recorded the service; Linda who made the meal arrangements; David, Cathy and Wyonia and many othersl. And to the members and friends who enjoyed another Great Day of Singing at New Hope, we thank you for your prayers, support and attendance.
