The Joy, Love, Hope Food Bank kicked off today with the assembling of cartons of food for four area familes. The program is named in memory of Justine Lee Halls (JLH), a beloved member who passed away recently. Pastor Sandra Whetsell announced at the worship service on December 13 that the first installment of the food program has been completed. Members have been working out the details over the last few months including the procurement of non perishable items from grocers and individuals.
Although the kickoff date came during the month of December, this is not a Christmas program. Rather it is year round. The Committee anticipates that the frequency of distribution will be monthly. Much depends on our ability to collect items from the members and the community.
You can participate in the program by helping provide the food items. Director Linda Heape gives this list of preferred items:
- canned fruit
- canned vegetables
- grits and oatmeal
- rice
- sugar
- mac and cheese
- flour
- soup
- canned meat
- iistant potatoes
- spaghetti and pasta
You may drop the items off at the churxh or fellowship hall during regular services. For other times please contact a member or the church office. A few extra items in the shopping cart from each of us will go a long way to help someone.
