On Sunday, October 3, some family members gathered at the Fellowship Hall to engage in storytelling. The narrator was Vance Boone and the listeners were members of the Fairey family: Ruth Marie, Robert and Andy Fairey. Ruth Marie's husband, Jimmy Lyons and Robert's wife Carolyn were also present for the occasion as was Terry Boone, Vance's wife. Also present was Art Whetstone, whose grandparents, Elizabeth Fairey and Frank Whetstone, lived in the house next door to the Faireys. Vance is a lifelong resident of Rowesville and member if New Hope and former sheriff of Orangeburg County. The family members present had all grown up in the house of Robert and Martha Fairey, next door to the Boones. Vance had many stories to tell about the Faireys and other Rowesvillians. His amazing memory and storytelling ability are legendary. The sleepy little town of Rowesville has a colorful history and only Vance could make it come back to life for us. The Boones and Faireys were founders of the church and supporters through the years.
